Caterpillar Inc. seeks Sr Assoc Engr-Test/ Validation at its facility located at 3701 S. Street, Lafayette, IN 47905.
Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) Validation and Testing of Gas / DGB ECM software and maintain HIL framework development activities including hardware setup, wire harness and other equipment at the HIL lab at Lafayette Engine Center (LEC). Coordinate with software development, applications, and performance teams to finalize, plan, execute and document results. Collaborate with Development partners in converting Gas Engine Test Requirements to Test Vectors. Simplify Gas Engine Numerical Models to enable integration on Advanced Simulators. Execute Test Vectors on Simulators and determine pass/fail results. Collaborate with development partners on integration of test results. Compile and preset test results to extended engineering team. Perform Engine Control Module (ECM) software validation for various New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) Natural Gas/Dual Fuel/Alternative Fuel engine families. Understand software/system design requirements, its effect on engine operation (Open Loop or Close Loop), and test/validate software for requirements. Work with the team to address issues that arise during tests. Use system knowledge to understand requests - CRM (change request management) or calibration related tests. Select the standard test procedure (VFT - Virtual Field Testing) or design special tests to validate the given functionality. Coordinate with the team in development of automation sequences for converting manual test procedures into automated ones and incorporating all additional automation tasks. Use dSPACE tool namely Automation Desk for this purpose. Integrate plant models for various engine families into the MATLAB/ Simulink framework. Frameworks are used as interface between engine plant models and the simulator. Application of leading Engine Simulation tools such as d SPACE, Grid Controllers and Voltage Regulators.
REQS: This position requires a bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 1 year of experience in Software Validation or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) DSPACE Control Desk & Automation Desk Development package; (2) MathWorks Matlab and Simulink Simulation program; (3) Gamma Technologies Power Simulation Program; (4) Vector CANApe, CANalyzer Calibration tools; and (5) Electrical System Integration skills, using controllers, simulators, sensors, switches, solenoids and wiring harnesses.
