The 22nd Judicial Circuit-Juvenile Division seeks applicants for a Deputy Juvenile Officer I-II. Candidates must have a Master's Degree from an accredited school in social work, criminal justice, administration of justice, public administration, business administration, court management, a related field or a law degree. Prefer two years of experience in Social Work or a related field. Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of liability insurance and an automobile that can be used on duty (mileage reimbursement is provided). CLASS TITLE : Deputy Juvenile Officer I MA/II – Mediation & Court Services

STARTING SALARY: $47,008

REPORTS TO: Mediation Unit Supervisor

CLASS DEFINITION : Deputy Juvenile Officers in the Mediation Unit provide support to the Judicial Officers and other courtroom staff in all Family Court Divisions including but not limited to 9, 14, 15, 16 and 30. The primary focus of these services is to provide assistance in resolving custody disputes in orders of protection, dissolutions, and paternity actions, as well as intra-family conflict. Must have understanding of training standards for Mediators. Acts under the day‑to‑day supervision of Unit Supervisor. Interacts with numerous outside agencies. Maintains an ongoing caseload; closing and opening some cases within specified periods.

JOB DUTIES :

· Provide mediation for divorce/child custody disputes

· Facilitate supervised visitation and custody exchanges, as needed

· Work closely with community agencies that provide supervised visitation and custody exchange services, and domestic violence advocacy

· Provide Intra-Family Mediaton services

· Assist judicial officers in all Family Court divisions on domestic relations related matters

· Ability to remain impartial and ethical as sensititve issues may be addressed during mediation sessions

· Link families to community resources, as needed

· Conduct home, school and community visits, with the purpose of gathering further pertinent assessment information on Home Study Investigations

· Testify before the Court as to the current environment of a given client on Home Study Investigations

· Provide a myriad of ongoing services and casework consistent with the needs of children and their families and the unit of assignment

· Participate in one's own annual evaluation to assess personal goals and professional growth

· Prepare written parenting plan agreements

· Work closely with a wide variety of agency and community personnel in relation to case matters

· Comply with the Missouri Juvenile Officer Performance Standards

· Computer entry into the justice information system (as required) and creation of documents in Word

· May require some evening hours

· Works in harmony with unit members and provides coverage as needed

· Other duties as may be assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Considerable interviewing skills to professionally assess and appropriately intervene in client systems. The ability to express ideas verbally and in written form, which purport meaningful case data to reflect professional assessments and appropriate interventions. Good interpersonal skills. Requires knowledge of child development theories and family dynamics, child abuse and domestic violence, the effects of divorce on children, child custody research, community resources, childcare agencies, and other institutions in the provision of related services. Good knowledge of the Juvenile Code, Missouri Supreme Court Rules, and Local Court Rules relating to Alternative Dispute Resolution. Must have the ability to use Word for creation of reports. Must have the ability to become proficient in the justice information system for client data entry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Master's Degree in social work, criminal justice, administration of justice, public administration, business administration, court management, a related field or a law degree. The Master's Degree or Law Degree must be from a school accredited in the chosen field. Prefer two years of experience in Social Work or a related field.
